The
Catholics Come Home-
initiative for the Diocese of St. Petersburg is a media
campaign intended to show the beauty of our faith and to
invite those who have left the Catholic faith or just
"wandered away" to come back home. The Advent/Christmas
season provides an excellent opportunity to invite people to
come home to the Catholic Church. From December 16-January
22 television commercials will be aired on almost every
network and cable station in the Tampa Bay media market.
These are positive messages that will evoke pride in our
Catholic faith and will allow viewers who have been away
from the practice of the Catholic faith to say, "There's a
place for us/we are invited back!" The television ads alone
are not sufficient. The invitation, witness and hospitality
of all parishioners is needed. We can invite family members,
friends, neighbors and fellow workers to rediscover their
Catholic faith or embrace it for the first time. Invite them
home this Christmas! For more information and to find out
how you can help, visit: www.dosp.org and click on the
Diocese of St. Petersburg/Catholics Come Home- logo on the
front page of the website.

Prayer Chalice
On the 1st Sunday of Lent
(Feb. 26th ) we as a parish, are being invited to become a
part of a program initiated in many parishes throughout the
country. It is called the Prayer Chalice Program.
This is how the program
will work: Each Sunday a family, couple, or
individual will be called forward at the close of Mass to
receive the Prayer Chalice with special prayers written to
accompany it. In taking the Chalice, they commit themselves
to pray, in the name of our parish, in thanksgiving for all
those generously sharing in Church ministry and in
particular for the gift of sisters, brothers, priests and
deacons. They are also asked to pray for our current
seminarians and for an increase in holy vocations. All of
you are invited to participate in this program. There is a
sign up sheet in the back of church. We encourage you to
sign up for one of the weeks on the sheet and then to attend
9:30am Mass that week to receive the Chalice. The Prayer
Chalice is to be returned to the sacristy the following
Sunday prior to the 9:30 Mass. It is our hope that this
experience will encourage each of us to take seriously our
vocation as a member of the Body of Christ and encourage ALL
of us to pray for the gift of vocations to the priesthood
and religious life (not just the family with the chalice for
the week!). We believe the Spirit is calling forth men and
women from our faith community for theseroles of service.
May our prayer help to inspire young men and women to be
attentive to the movement of the Spirit within them and to
step forward in faith and with generous hearts to wherever
the Spirit leads them. Questions? Call Belinda Major
442-7879 or Sharon Jill 797-3627

effort to share our faith with others. We do this in many ways -
through liturgies, education, socializing, and hospitality. It's our
intent to create an atmosphere where God's presence is seen and felt.
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is meant for 3 groups of
people: Those never baptized Those baptized in another Christian
faith, Baptized Catholics who have not received additional sacraments
and/or who have not been raised Catholic. We encourage you to
prayerfully consider the people you know: spouse, friend, relative,
etc. and then take a chance - extend the invitation! Sometimes all it
takes is a simple invitation. Sessions will begin on Thursday,
September 8, 2011. For more information please call 442-7081.

Lighthouse Catholic
Media CD of the Week
The Dead Sea Scrolls by Dr. John Bergsma
- Dr. John Bergsma is an Associate Professor of Theology at
Franciscan University of Steubenville, and was a Protestant
pastor for four years before converting to the Catholic
Church. In this enlightening talk, Dr. Bergsma shows how our
respect for the traditional canon of Scripture, as well as
our understanding of the Catholic Faith, can be greatly
enhanced by the Dead Sea Scrolls— the greatest
archaeological discovery of all time. Your donation of $3 or
more per CD enables us to continue to offer great titles.
Donations can be deposited into the kiosk donation boxes
located in the Church or MAH outside the Resource Center.
Checks should be made payable to Light of Christ.
