Worship and Liturgy Commission

The goal is to aid in providing evidence of the paschal mystery to the faithful in environment, word, song, and sacrament and to hold paramount, the foundational  principles of sound liturgy as expressed in official documents of the Church, as well as, to provide a sense of community and personal worship within the confines of these principles.

It encompasses the following parish organizations, programs and ministries:

Altar Servers
(Adult and Youth)

The position is open to all Catholics have received their First Holy Communion. Any person, 10 years or older, is encouraged to participate in the liturgy by assisting the priest as a youth server. Training is provided for both adult and youth servers. Adult servers assist the priest at daily mass and  also assist with funeral and memorial masses.

Cantors

Cantors sing solo pieces of music during different liturgical services.

Choirs

The Adult Choir sings both contemporary and traditional choral literature and offers their talents at the 11:15 am Mass on Sunday as well as major sacred liturgies. Adults of all ages are encouraged to participate in this group. They rehearse at 7:00 pm on Thursday evenings.

Church Environment  
Extraordinary Ministers of  Holy Communion

These ministers serve at the altar, in the homes, in the hospitals, and in the nursing homes. Participants in this dedicated ministry are invited and required to attend a short training period to become acquainted with the guidelines and procedures.

Greeters

Welcome church members with a warm handshake, a smile, a "good day" greeting and hold the door for them to enter.

Volunteer Position: Any Adult

Required of Volunteer: Church member in good standing. Have a warm smile and welcoming handshake.

Experience Necessary:  None

Training Required: None

Time Commitment: Serve at assigned Mass

 Interpreters for the Deaf

Light of Christ has a close community of deaf and hearing impaired individuals. The Sunday 9:30 am Mass is interpreted. After Mass, the deaf community, Friendly Hands, gathers in the Parish Hall for fellowship.

Lectors

Lector Schedule

Readers for weekend liturgies.

Volunteer Position: Reader

Required of Volunteer: College age and beyond. Availability to read at Sunday liturgy on a monthly basis.

Experience Necessary: Some public speaking experience is helpful.

Training Required: Workshop and ongoing critique.

Time Commitment: One hour per month.

Prayer Chain

Receives prayer requests and special intentions from any member of the parish who would like extra prayers. The request is passed on via telephone and prayers  are offered individually at home at specified times throughout the day.

Rosary

The Rosary schedule at Light of Christ is as follows: Daily, Mon.- Fri. at 6:35 am (before the 7:00 am Mass); Sat. morning at 8:05 am, Sat. afternoon at 3:35 pm (before 4:00 pm Mass); Sun. morning at 7:35 am (before the 8:00 am Mass). Volunteers are welcome and needed.

Sacristans

A "behind the scenes" ministry. Volunteers assist in a variety of ways: setting up for daily or weekend Masses, seasonal decoration of the sanctuary area,  including altar linens. Volunteers are always needed.

Ushers

The purpose of the ushers is to greet and welcome those who attend Mass. Seating the members and the visitors, showing them the way to communion, and helping the handicapped to feel more comfortable are just some of the services provided by these dedicated individuals.

Wedding Information

Sacrament of Marriage - Arrangements must be made at least six months in advance.
